MARMOT PRODUCT IDEAS AT A HEIGHT OF 2,500 METERS

It all began in 1971 when students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley, on a university excursion to Alaska's Juneau Icefield Glacier, discovered that there was no ideal clothing for excursions in extreme weather conditions. Up on the glacier, they came up with the idea of the Marmot Club. The students started making down products in their small dorm room. Their first products were a down vest, a sweater, a parka and three down sleeping bags.

The foundation stone of the Marmot company was laid. Only 2 years later, the two opened their first shop for down jackets and sleeping bags in Colorado: "Marmot Mountain Works". The small sales outlet quickly developed into an innovative company, which is still trusted by mountaineers in particular. Marmot uses the silhouette of a mountain peak crowned with a glacier as its logo - the natural alpine habitat of marmots (Marmot).

MARMOT: WITH THE "GOLDEN MANTLE" IN THE CINEMAS

A chance encounter during a climbing holiday in Peru provided the newly founded company with the largest order to date. Producer Mike Hoover planned the movie "The Eiger Sanction" with Clint Eastwood and needed 108 thick lined jackets for it. A week later the Marmots presented the "Golden Mantle". A down-fed expedition parka that led to the first great success of the young fire.
