Kinji Shimizu probably had no idea how his relationship to bicycles and clothing would change within a few years in 1955. He still got on the bike himself, rode about 50 kilometres to deliver a good 40 kilos of clothes each time. Daily. Nine years later Kinji Shimizu left the kicking to his son Hiro. He took part in the Asian Championship and won - even before the race had even started. When the team boss pulled one of 15 lots out of his helmet, Hiro Shimizu's name stood there. That in turn made him the chosen one, laid the foundation, so to speak, for an entire company.
While his 14 teammates had to compete in the championship with the cotton jerseys that were common at the time, Hiro was allowed to wear a shirt made entirely of nylon from Italy. Father Kinji looked closely and found his passion. With the Italian jersey as a model, Kinji Shimizu worked continuously over the next few years. He developed new fabrics, adapted the jersey more and more to the movements on the bike. Perfection was the goal, only the best good enough. Thus Kinji Shimizu created the basis for Pearl Izumi.
